Growing Vegetables

Miss Henson and all the children have been really busy in the outside area this week.

On Tuesday they cleared all the weeds from this flower bed. Joshua managed to pull up this huge dandelion root by himself!!

On Wednesday they planted 2 seed potatoes, 16 onion bulbs and three rows of seeds, carrots, radishes and red spring onions. Then they used stones to mark out the different areas. They have also made signs for each of the different vegetables so that we know what is planted where.

They even added a scarecrow to help protect the crops!

We have been learning about the weather this week. In this picture you can see Max presenting the weather as if he was on television. Georgia had the very responsible role of filming him!

If you look closely you can see that Max has predicted sunny weather for Roydon!

Summer Time

As it's the summer term now I thought we should have a summer-like picture! Oscar made this beach in the sand tray. Can you see the shells on the beach and the waves coming into the shore?

Goldilocks

This week we have been reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We've sung 'When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears' with a little help from the British Council website (click on the picture below to see the animation we watched).

We spent some time talking about what we eat for breakfast and the different grains that are used to make cereal. Then, as you can see in all the pictures, we made some porridge. We have got our very own three bears cottage in the classroom so we sat in there to measure out the ingredients, mix them up, cook it and eat it! Most of us tried it and some of us managed to finish the whole bowl.

This is the recipe we used:
1 cup of oats
1 cup of water
1 cup of milk
1 dessertspoon of sugar.

27 Little Pigs!!

This week we have been doing all sorts of activities about the three little pigs. We read the story and made pig masks choosing how to make them pink, some used paint, some used tissue paper and some coloured them using crayons or felt tip pens.

Yesterday we got in a real mess building houses of straw. We used the cardboard boxes to help. As you can see in this picture we liked to add chimneys so that the wolf could climb down into the pot of water!

Today we re-told the story using our masks and some other props. Alfie was particularly good at remembering what happened in the story. Here he is as the narrator, telling the story while some other children acted it out.

We've really enjoyed the story and are looking forward to reading another traditional tale soon.

Nurse Sue

Nurse Sue came to visit us today to tell us about her job. She told us that she works in a big hospital looking after people who are poorly.

She showed us how to use bandages and let us have a go at putting bandages on each other. Olivia had a bandage on her arm.

She also showed us her special nurse's watch and how to use a stethoscope.

We were very keen to show her the doctor's surgery in our classroom.
